Martha 'Alice' Kite was the daughter of Henderson Kite 1831 – 1878 and Hila Hiley Kite 1836 – 1916. Her siblings were: John R Kite 1857 – 1931; Catherine Parthena Althena "Polly" Kite 1859 – 1921; Robert Kite 1861 – 1887; William "Bill" Henderson Kite 1864 – 1912; George Rufus "Rufe" Kite 1867 – 1954; Tillman A Kite 1870 – 1888; Martin Hickman Kite 1871 – 1950; Soleta Sleety Kite 1873 – 1884 and Carrie Francis Kite 1875 – 1964.

On June 12, 1873 was a sad day for Alice. Her beloved father passed away.

In the 1880 census Alice's mother had relocated to District 6, in Greene Co., Tennessee. Her brothers were all working doing farm labor, to support the family.

In 1883 Alice became the bride of Ephriam McKinley "Kin" Brown. From this union the following known children were born: Joseph Norman Brown 1884 – 1966; Evy Ann Brown 1885 – 1887; George Harrell Brown 1886 – 1887; Lula Love Brown 1888 – 1926; James Onnie Brown 1890 – 1962; Carrie Belle Brown 1892 – 1981; Tivis Wayland Brown 1894 – 1968; Olivia Alice "Livie" BROWN 1896 – 1980 and Georgia Wandow Brown 1901 – 1987.

By the 1900 census Alice and Kin had purchased and paid for a their home and farm in Rural Mohawk in Green Co., Tennessee. They had been married 17 years and Alice had given birth to 8 children, and 6 of them were living. Living on the farm next to them was Alice's brother, wife and 11 children.

By the 1910 census three of the children were married and five were still at home. Kin had the help of James Onnie to support the family. Their son Norman and his family was living on and farming the land on the next farm.

In 1920 Alice and Kin's only child home was 18 year old Georgie.

On May 14, 1928 was a very sad day for Alice. Her dear Kin has passed away. A burial plot was selected for him at the
Wisecarver Cemetery on N Mohawk Rd in Mohawk, Greene County, Tennessee. After his funeral, Alice gathered her family and friends around her at the cemetery to bid her beloved Ephriam McKinley "Kin" Brown to "Rest in Peace."

The 1940 census revealed that Alice was at 5461 3rd Avenue, Los Angeles, California at the home of Her daughter Georgia Skinnell and Son-in-law Willie Skinnell.

Tennessee, Death Records, and death certificate reveal that Alice Kite Brown passed away on 26 Oct 1945 in Mahawk, Green Co., Tennessee. She had been ill about 2 week when she exhaled her final breath at 10:15 pm. Her spirit returned to God and her body was buried in the Wisecarver Cemetery Where she and her dear husband, Kin "Rest in Peace." (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
