Edward was born on September 9, 1881 in Iowa to Michael Joseph Nestor and Emmaline ‘Davis' Nestor , they later moved to a farm north of Wolbach, Nebraska. As Edward was walking over to visit his sister Ellen Nealon one day he met Gertrude ‘Betty' Carlson. They courted after that initial encounter and on November 8, 1908 were escorted to Greeley by Betty's sister Nona J. ‘Carlson' Bengston and her husband John B. Bengston, in a buggy to be wed with their escorts standing up for them, and from this union was born five children; Emma J., Margaret N., Gertruide, Frances E., and Raymond E.

Gertruide however, did not survive past her third day because she was born with a bad heart.

They farmed on Betty's parents farm north of Wolbach, Nebraska until around 1916 when Edward and Betty bought a farm west of their present location, which was all prairie when purchased. A chicken house was soon erected with the sod that had been broken. Grover Farley built various other buildings upon the farm. It was on this land where Raymond, their two year old son, drown in a water tank in 1918. Edward then took ill and passed away on August 27, 1921 at the early age of 40, leaving his wife Betty, their three daughters and her mother on the farm to experience many hardships which became a part of life.

Edward came from a family of fifteen. His brother John Nestor married Yarda Carlson, his wife's sister.
