Thurman Denton Alcorn, a member of County Court from the 9th Dist. for nearly a quarter of a century and prominent merchant of Buffalo Valley, died at Cookeville General Hospital Friday afternoon following a brief illness.

A heart attack was the cause of his death. Although he had had a heart condition for some time, he was apparently in good health until he became ill earlier in the week.

His death created the fourth fourth vacancy in County Court this year.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Hooper-Huddleston
Funeral Home with the Rev. Wm. Janes, former pastor of the Buffalo Valley Presbyterian Church officiating.

Members of County Court served as honorary pallbearer's. Burial was in Crest Lawn Cemetery.

A native Putnam Countian, Mr. Alcorn was the son of the late Robert Lee and Josephine Jones Alcorn and a resident of Buffalo Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mabel Medley Alcorn; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ada Fay Tucker, Gainesboro, and Mrs. Peggy Burton, Clinton; 1 son, Neil D. Alcorn, Buffalo Valley; 2 brothers, Fred Alcorn, Shelbyville, and Walter Alcorn, Lancaster, MA; 1 sister, Mrs. Hattie Garner, Cookeville, and 7 grandchildren.
