John D. Fair, 79, of Evans City died Thursday afternoon at Passavant Health Center in McCandless Township. Born March 7, 1921, in Butler, he was the son of Clifford Roy and Iva Viola Davis Fair. He retired from his doctor of chiropractic practice in Evans City in January 2000 after more than 50 years. He was a past president of the Butler County Chiropractic Society, and he was a past secretary of District 9 of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society. He was a teacher of concept therapy and a member of the Concept Therapy Institute's International On-The-Beam Club. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 283 of Rochester, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 259 of New Brighton, and a life member of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a member of the VFW Post 499, the American Legion Post 0219 in Evans City, the American Chiropractic Association, and the National College of Chiropractic Alumni Association He was a 1950 graduate of the Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Ind. Mr. Fair served in the U.S. Navy as an airplane mechanic gunner, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Kitzer Nicholas Fair of Evans City, whom he married on March 12, 1971; three sons, John D. Fair Jr. of Evans City, Richard G. Fair of Coraopolis, and David C. Fair of Slippery Rock; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Barbara) Ott of Moon Township, Mrs. James (Alliene) Lees of Mars, and Mrs. Roy (Janice) Schmitt of Valencia; two sisters, Ms. Evelyn Garvin of New Brighton and Ms. Jane Fields of Wampum; 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one grandchild. FAIR — A memorial service for John D. Fair, who died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the KINSEY-VOLZ FUNERAL HOME in Evans City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Evans City Public Library or to the Allegheny School, Pittsburgh Campus, 1992 Wings Mills Road, Coraopolis, PA, 15108.
