Jessie Mitchell was the eldest daughter and fourth of eleven children born to Russell C. Mitchell, Sr. (1837-1905), a Confederate veteran and prominent Atlanta businessman, and his first wife Deborah Margaret Sweet (1847-1887). In 1916, she was living with her brother, Russell C. Mitchell, Jr. (1880-1916) in El Paso, Texas. She was informant on his death certificate. He died of tuberculosis. I expect she probably had it, as well, and they went out there as the climate was said to be good for lung troubles. I've not been able to find a death certificate for her, but the Mitchell family Bible states she died at El Paso. She was an aunt of Margaret Mitchell who wrote "Gone with the Wind."
