Russell Crawford Mitchell, Jr. was the ninth of eleven children born to Russell C. Mitchell, Sr. (1837-1905), a Confederate veteran and prominent Atlanta businessman, and his first wife Deborah Margaret Sweet (1847-1887). Russell was listed as a law student on his death certificate. He died of tuberculosis, which also killed his mother and several siblings. I expect he had gone to Texas as the climate was thought to help lung troubles. He was an uncle of Margaret Mitchell who wrote "Gone with the Wind."
