Born in Leese, Hanover, Gesche Boettcher immigrated to America with her parents and siblings in 1859. The family arrived in New Orleans 26 November 1859 aboard the ship "Edmund." Settling in Gasconade County, MO, Gesche married Henry Hermann Koenig 23 Jun 1862. Mrs. Schmidt's obituary indicates that nine children were born to this union. After Mr. Koenig's death in 1876, the widow Gesche Koenig married Henry Hermann Schmidt 27 Apr 1878. This marriage produced one son and two daughters. According to Mrs. Schmidt's obituary, she was laid to rest at the side of her husband, Henry Schmidt, in Union Cemetery, Bland.
