Sophia Boettcher (1862-1881,) born Gasconade County, MO, was daughter of Carsten Heinrich and Gesche Adelheid (Drücker) Boettcher. Her sad death in 1881 followed that of her brother, John, by just two years.

Obituary in Der Christliche Apologete:

Böttcher – At the Age of 19 years, 2 months and 16 days, our young sister Sophia Böttcher died in the living faith, that Jesus Christ is her saviour. The deceased was born October 7, 1862 here in Gasconade, MO. She joined our church in August 1875 and was converted to the Lord at our camp meeting in 1879. Since Pentecost last year her faith was tested hard because she suffered from (either consumption or cachexia/cachexy which is a wasting disease (Auszehrung has several meanings in German)) with great pain. Her prospect of going to heaven became dark but the Lord helped her to defeat her doubts. The grace of the Lord was manifested for her when the someone brought her the Lord's Supper. She passed away on February 23, 1881 in faith of our Lord Jesus to eternal blessedness/Heaven. Four of her siblings made that way before her. Her parents along with her seven living siblings also cry because of the premature death of our sister Boettcher. They look at her from here in belief of the Mercy of God and Jesus Christ.
