Charles was born in Choctaw County Alabama and moved before 1870 with his parents & siblings to Whistler, Mobile County, Alabama. About 1878 his family then moved to the Wickware community of Newton County, Mississippi. He first married Annice Simmons Feb. 15 1891 in Newton County and after her death he married Hattie Spencer Jan. 9, 1900. Hattie was the daughterGeorge Washington Spencerand Nancy Holdcroft Spencer Charles worked at his brotherThomas store in Newton and also farmed.
