Harold O. Baucum Dies Suddenly Here Saturday
Harold Otto Baucum of Rt. 1, Lawrence, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Newton Hospital Saturday, Nov. 9, 1974, after being stricken about 8:30 a. m. at a Newton service station. He had been in declining health for some time, but his death was unexpected.
A native of Newton County, he was born March 9, 1907, his parents being the later Hattie Spencer and Charles A. Baucum. He wa a Baptist and a retired carpenter and painter.
Mr. Baucum leaves his wife, Mrs. Angie Leigh Baucum, Lawrence; two sons, Donald Baucum of Jackson and Harold Baucum of Grand Bay, Ala.; two daughters, Mrs. Baby Lee McLelland of Meridian and Mrs. Ruby Jean Vallas of Decatur; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas Baucum of Montgomery, Ala., Spencer Baucum of Chunky and Mason Baucum of Hickory; three sisters, Mrs. Hortense Smith of Newton, Mrs. Margie Scarborough of Decatur and Mrs. Gussie Staton of Union, and a number of nephews and nieces.
The Revs. Dan Shaffer and Larry Laird officiated at the funeral service, held at 10 a. m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Webb Funeral Home chapel. Interment followed in the Liberty Cemetery southeast of Newton.
Active pallbearers were Charlie Scarborough, Charles Baucum, Mike McLelland, Ray Baucum, Nemour Phillips, Lavon Baucum, Tracy Baucum, Steve Baucum, J. C. Williams and L. B. Williams.
