From Holland St. John - "Freem, as he was referred to by his family and friends, was born on July 10, 1840 near Porter, Rock County, Wisconsin. He was the eldest of nine sons and daughters of Nehemiah and Elmena (Freeman) St John. He was raised on the family farm in Wisconsin. The family moved in 1852 to Clayton County, Iowa and established a farm near Arlington. Freem was twelve years of age. His first marriage was to Calista Delcie Powers of Prairie DuChien, Wisconsin, which resulted in separation and later divorce. While he was married to Calista, Freem farmed near Arlington, Iowa and Greenville, Iowa. They had six children. Freem married a second time, to Edith M. Hall on January 7, 1890 at Blair, Nebraska. Edith was born February 29, 1864 at New Haven, Connecticut. He and his new wife Edith farmed in Dallas County, Iowa near Linden. Their daughter Edith Ivalou was born March 5, 1891 in Linden. The family moved again, this time to Washington State. Freem and Edith lived in Richmond Beach, just north of Seattle, for the remainder of their lives. He died December 16, 1919 and Edith died October 22, 1933. His children by his first marriage mostly lived in California."
