Death came to Edwin E. Henschel, 53, Friday night at the basketball game in the Kiel high school gymnasium. He was seated with his wife at the game and had just started to enjoy the proceedings when he was fatally stricken by a heart attack. His death came almost instantaneously. His death occurred just before the end of the first game of the evening.
A firm booster for sports and the father of three sons who participated in high school and college, Ed Henschel missed very few games, even though he had to slow down recently because of a serious heart attack last summer.
He was born in April 16, 1905 in the town of Centerville and he attended district school in Meeme. He was married to Eva Brickbauer of Russell June 6, 1931. They have lived in Kiel ever since. For the past 34 years, Henschel has been employed by the Manitowoc County Highway Department. He was a member of the board of directors of the Kiel Municipal Band. He is a former member of the consistory of St. Peter's church.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, DuWayne of Kiel, Floyd and DeLyle, students of Lakeland college; two granddaughters; three brothers, Albert of Rockville, Melvin of rural Elkhart Lake, and Elmer of Manitowoc, and four sisters, Mrs. Otto Ebeling or rural Cleveland, Mrs. Arno Kramer of rural Newton, Mrs. Ewald Stock of rural Manitowoc, and Mrs. Hugo Groskopf of rural Elkhart Lake.
