LONG
Dorotha Esther Duckworth, oldest daughter of George and Laura Abrahamson Duckworth, was born July 31, 1909, in Lucas County, Iowa. She passed away at the Lucas County Health Center March 30, 1999 at the age of 89 years and 8 months.
On Dec. 26, 1925, Dorotha was united in marriage to Lloyd C. Long. To this union, four children were born: sons Donald and Leland, and daughters JoAnn and Janice.
Dorotha accepted Christ in 1943. She faithfully served her Lord and was a member of the Chariton Bible Church. She attended as long as her health permitted.
Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd; son Donald in the South Pacific during World War II; two brothers, Leland and Duane Duckworth; grandson Donnie Long; granddaughter Becky Stech; and great-grandson Kyle Virchow.
She is survived by son Leland and wife Geneva, dauthers JoAnn Stech and husband Loyal, and Janice Darrah and husband Don; a special daughter, Barbara Williams and husband Chuck. She is also survived by seven grandsons; six granddaughters; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ward Duckworth of Chariton and Verlyn Duckworth of Indianola; and three sisters, Leila McDonald of Chariton, Wilma Hutchinson of University Park and Ina Jean Halferty of Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, 1999, at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery. Lee Long, Ken Long, Brian Long, Russ Johnson, Dustin Darrah, Jay Darrah, Jeff Darrah and Vince Long served as bearers. Ron Stech was honorary bearer.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Chariton Bible Church or to the Chariton Public Library.
