March 22, 1973
George Andrew Duckworth, son of Lewis and Nancy Ellen Duckworth, was born on September 11, 1885, and passed away at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines on March 15, 1973, at the age of 87 years, six months and four days.
He spent his entire life in Lucas County farming until moving to Chariton in 1948.
He was united in marriage to Laura Alfreda Abrahamson on December 31, 1908. To this union was born four sons, Leland of Omaha, Neb., Ward of Chariton, Duane of Russell and Verlyn of Indianola; four daughters, Mrs. Dorotha Long and Mrs. Leila McDonald of Chariton, Mrs. Wilma Hutchinson of University Park and Mrs. Jean Halferty of Mount Pleasant.
He is also survived by one brother, Roy Duckworth of Batavia, N. Y. and one sister, Mrs. Grace Whittlesey of Chariton; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; also many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.
He received the Lord as his personal Saviour and will long be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and loving friend.
Funeral services were conducted by the pastor LaRoy Anderson of Columbus Junction at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 1973, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
