Biography

Baptism June 30, 1782 at Dryland Church, Nazareth Township, Northampton County, PA, (William J. Hinke, Page 35, LDS film # 20351). The parents were Jacob Balliet and Elizabeth Ritterin. The sponsors were Jacob & Susanna Beisel.

See Revolutionary War pension application # W 5209 for Jacob Balliet by Barbara Balliet for copy of Jacob Balliet, Jr.'s actual birth certificate, which is in German. Jacob was born on June 7, 1782 in Bethlehem Township in Northampton County, PA. The parents were Jacob Balliet and Elizabeth Ritterin. The sponsors were Jacob Beisel and his wife Susanna Ritterin.

May have been married twice --

1st wife -- Cath. Hohenschild married July 10, 1808 at the 1st Reformed Church, Easton, Pennsylvania. (Kieffer, page 358, LDS film # 384712)

2nd wife -- Catharine Seibert, per Barabra Balliet estate records. See below.

Jacob Balliet, Jr. was last listed in the 1850 census living in Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County, PA. His age was 64 and the occupation listed was "gentleman". His wife, Catharine, 62, and daughter Susan, 26, were also listed in the 1850 census. There was no listing for him in the 1860 census.

Death in Northampton County Newspaper called "Argus"

"Jacob Baliert died in Lower Nazareth Township, August 7, 1854, aged 72 years".

Register of Wills granted Letters of Administration to Josiah Fogel on October 2, 1854.

Catharine Seibert's heirs to the estate of Barbara Balliet of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (no reference to Jacob Balliet), Catharine Seibert married Lewis Hulserman of Baltimore, Maryland, Susannah Weaver, late Susannah Seibert, wife of Charles Weaver, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, Mary Houser, late Mary Seibert, wife of Charles Houser, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania and George Seibert, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, were paid $112 by John Dentler on December 16, 1858. Deed recorded June 27, 1859.

Inscription

No marker found. The old grave markers of the cemetery were removed in 1975 due to the poor conditions of the markers and safety issues. A large memorial was erected in place of the old markers. Jacob Balliet (1782 - 1854) is listed on this memorial.
