Greenfield Argus Sept. 16, 1882
Greenfield, Greene County, Illinois

"Archibald Lee died Sept. 14th, 1882, aged 77 years, 8 months, and 13 days. He was born near Knoxville, Tenn., Dec. 31st, 1804. In early life he with his parents, removed to near Hopkinsville, Ky. Two years later removed to near Huntsville, Ala., where his father died in 1815. A few years later his mother and little family came to Hamilton county, Illinois. In 1822 Mr. Lee, with an uncle, came to Greene county, but returned to Hamilton and was married on 10 March, 1823 to Miss Jane Upton in Hamilton County and again returned to Greene county, where he has ever since lived up to the time of his death, with the exception of a few years residence in Litchfield, IL. He was in the Indian wars of the years 1831 and 1832. The result of this marital union is fourteen children, five sons and nine daughters, all of whom are living except two sons and one daughter. The subject of this notice was not a religionist, but an honest man in the strictest sense of the word. One that despised hypocrisy in whatever guise it presented itself. He was a positive straight-forward, genial, kind-hearted man. Rest in peace."
