Aged Resident is Called by Death
Eli Lee, aged 84, a well known and highly respected resident of Litchfield died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. C. Parish, 413 N. Fourth Street at 6:15am Friday. Death was the result of complications. He had an attack of paralysis six weeks ago from which he never fully recovered.
Mr. Lee is survived by three daughters and two sons. they are Mrs. George Parish of Litchfield; Mrs. George Paullis of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Charles Kinsman of Chicago; Robert Lee of Litchfield, and Earl Lee of Chicago. There are six grandchildren.
Mr. Lee was born in Greenfield, Greene County, Illinois, December 1, 1829 and was one of a family of twelve children.
He settled in Litchfield when a young man and after engaging in various business enterprises entered the grocery business at 407 N. State St. He was a grocerman in Litchfield for 35 years.
Mr. Lee was a personal friend of Former Senator Shelby M. Cullen, who died at Washington a few weeks ago. Mrs. Lee died 16 years ago.
Mr. Lee was for some time the oldest living member of Charter Oak Lodge A.F.& A.M. and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for more than 40- years.
The funeral services will be conducted from the First Presbyterian church, Sunday at 2:00 pm and will be under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity. Interment will be at Elmwood cemetery.
