Elmer J. Valentine, oldest son of the late Lewis Valentine, of Rocky Ridge, died on Saturday, December 13, at Excelsior Springs, Mo., to which place he had gone from his home at Chadron, Neb., for his health. Death came suddenly. The cause of his death is given as acute dilation of the heart. His body was prepared for burial and was accompanied East by Mr. and Mrs. Alva Valentine and Mr. George Stevens, Master of Samaritan Lodge, No. 158 A. F. & A. M., of Chadron. Owing to delays along the various roads the body did not arrive at Thurmont until late Tuesday evening. The body was taken to the home of Mr. Lewis Bollinger for the night. Funeral services and interment was made at Mt. Tabor church, at Rocky Ridge, on December 17, Rev. M. C. Waltemyer, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, and Elder John S. Weybright, of the Church of the Brethren, of Thurmont, officiating. The ritual burial service of Acacia Lodge No. 155, A. F. & A. M., of Thurmont, was read at the grave. The deceased was aged 57 yeas, 10 months and 2 days.
Mr. Valentine was a member of Samaritan Lodge, No. 15 A. F. & A. M., Occidental Chapter, No. 48, Royal MAsons, Yerubbabel Council, No. 27, Royal & Select Masters, Melita Commandery, No. 2; and Knight Templars, all of Chadron, Neb.; and a life member of Tangier Temple Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mysitc Shrine, of Omaha, Nebraska.
For 38 years he had been working on the Black Hill division of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroads and in rank of services was second oldest passenger conductor on the road.
He is survived by one brother, Mr. A. C. Valentine, who married Miss Myrtle Bollinger, of Thurmont, their home also being at Chadron, Neb.
