Clarence E. Akers

Clarence E. Akers, 81, Gary, and formerly of Sullivan, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at the Munster Med-Inn, Gary.

He was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Sullivan to Lex A. and Lizzie M. McCammon Akers.

The World War II Army veteran was a retired C&EI Railroad and Missouri Pacific Railroad car inspector.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert Akers and William Akers; two brothers, Roy Akers and Lex Akers Jr.; and one sister, Mary Jane Akers.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Nelson Akers; three sons, Donald Akers, James Akers, and Jerry Akers, all of Gary; one daughter, Marlene Austin, Gary; one brother, Walter Akers, Sullivan; two sisters, Mildred Walters and Dorothy Wall, both of Sullivan; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Harvest Temple Church of God, Sullivan, with the Rev. Terry Bush officiating. Burial will be in Little Flock Cemetery, Shelburn. Friends may call from noon until time of services Wednesday. Bocken Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge of the arrangements.
