C.M. Read, a prominent farmer and highly respected citizen, died last night, Sept. 27th, at his home in Pella township. Funeral services are to be held under Masonic auspices at 2 o´clock Saturday afternoon in the M.E. church, and will be conducted by Rev.W.D. Benjamin of this place and Rev. B.F. Eckley of Kankakee. Interment will be in Brenton cemetery.

OBITUARY
The funeral of Charles M. Read, whose death on Wednesday, Sept. 26th, was chronicled in this paper last week, was held under Masonic auspices in the Methodist church at 2 o´clock last Saturday afternoon. A very large concourse of people attended, Piper Lodge No. 608, A.F. & A.M. attending in a body, with an escort of Knights Templar from St. John´s Commandery of Fairbury, in both of which Mr. Read was an honored member.
The services at the church were conducted by his pastor, Rev. W.D. Benjamin, assisted by Rev. B.F. Eckley, a former pastor, from Kankakee. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mmes. Charles White, D.M. White, Messrs. C.A. McClain and J.A. Montelius, with Miss Ethel Kloethe as accompanist. Interment was in Brenton cemetery.
Charles M., son of Thomas and Eliza Read, was born in Chautauqua county, New York, on the 24th of June, 1852. He came with the family to La Salle county in 1859, and there grew to manhood. In 1872 he came with his brothers to Piper City and invested in farm lands, and this has since that time been his home. He and his brother, A.D. Read bought land together and worked together for fourteen years, when he married Malvina E. Marble and established a home of his own on Sept. 25th, 1888.
To them were born three sons, Edwin, Orville, and Elmo, the two former being at home and Elmo being married and living in the community. Besides the wife and sons, he leaves also two brothers, A.D. Read of this place and J.B. Read of Kingsville, Ohio, with numerous other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his demise.
Mr. Read was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Ridge Chapel and for many years has been one of its chief supporters and a willing worker in all its undertakings.
A loyal American, a true neighbor and friend, a kind and indulgent husband and father, this christian citizen passes on to his reward after an earthly life which is a open bookwhich all may read and profit by.
