OBITUARY

William Theodore Reed was born in New York, Feb. 9, 1850; died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Moore in Piper City, Ill., March 25, 1901, aged 51 years, 1 month, and 16 days.

Mr. Reed's father died in 1863 and the mother moved with her family to Illinois, settling near Grand Ridge, in LaSalle county. They moved from there to Ford county in 1873, locating on the farm at Sand Ridge north of this city. After the death of his mother, Theodore, the subject of this sketch, made his home with his brothers. He taught school a few years and by energetic industry and good business management he accumulated a competency. He had just let the contract for a nice house on one of his farms when he was taken sick.

Mr. Reed was a man of sterling worth, kind hearted, accommodating and always ready to lend a helping hand where needed. He was interested in everything tending toward the upbuilding of the community and was a liberal giver for church and Sunday school work. He was a member of Piper lodge No. 608, A.F. and A.M., who had charge of the funeral ceremonies here and from which the pall bearers were selected who accompanied the family with the body to its last resting place.

The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church Wednesday morning at 8:30, conducted by Rev. W. R. Watson, after which the remains were taken by train to Grand Ridge for interment. The pall bearers were Messrs. W. O. McKinney, G. O. Montelius, M. L. Sherman, A. C. Thompson, B. S. Thompson, and J. P. Glass. Of the family and others who accompanied them were Charles Reed and wife, A. D. Reed, J. B. Reed, Frank Reed, Mrs. G. L. Moore, James Stedman, and Attorney Kelly of Ottawa.

In the death of Mr. Reed the family loses a loving and affectionate member and a wise counsellor, and the community a highly respected and worthy citizen. Peace to his ashes.
