Obituary, 8 July 1983
"James Henry Fritz, second child of Charles and Sylvia Knapp Fritz, was born at Springfield, Mo. on Oct. 5, 1903 and passed away at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Hospital July 8, at the age of 79 years, nine months and three days,
after a lingering illness.
At the age of two years, he moved with his parents to Nebraska, where he continued to live, working mostly at farm work.
On Dec. 5, 1930 he was united in marriage to Julia Helen Christensen at Broken Bow. To this union was born 11 children: Louise Marie, Donita Lucille, Vivian Elizabeth, Leonard Vern, Lyle James, twins Arlene Rae and Darlene Mae, Larry Dean, Duane Allen, Judy Elaine and Betty Eileen.
In August of 1952 the family moved to Charleston, Ore., where he was employed at the Manaska Plywood Plant in North Bend, Ore., where he continued to work for 15 years.
In September of 1967 he and his wife, Julia, returned to Broken Bow, where they continued to make their home. After retiring from work he enjoyed raising garden and yard work, until ill health forced him to quit.
Preceding him in death were his parents: four brothers, four sisters, two half-sisters and two half-brothers, two sons, Lyle James, who passed away at the age of 14 and Larry Dean, who was killed in a car accident in 1977.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Julia; seven daughters, Louise Matson of Fremont, Donita Krumback of Kearney, Vivian Mecham of Battle Mountain, Nev., Arlene Vyhidal of Fremont, Darlene Panowicz of Yerington, Nev., Judy Smith of Cottage Grove, Ore., Betty Zwicker of Cornelius, Ore., tow sons, Leonard Fritz of Lovelock, Nev., Duane Fritz of Yerington, Nev.; six sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law; two brothers, Bert Fritz and wife Elsie of Tangent, Ore. and Walter Fritz and wife, Jean of Fresno, Calif.; 33 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
His funeral services were held in the Grovier Bros. Chapel, Monday July 11 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Elmer Knee officiating. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Monte Joe McFate singing "In The Garden" and "Shall We Gather At The River".
The organist was Mrs. Lois Paxton.
Pallbearers included Marion Rhoades, Walter Rhoades, Claude Rohades, Claus Matson, Paul Hammond and Edwin D. Ferguson. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery with the Grovier Bros. Mortuary in charge of arrangements."
