Lyle 'Butch' Fritz, Merna high school freshman, died Thursday night at a local hospital of a contagious disease, believed to be meningitis. He had taken sick Wednesday night. Due to the fact he died of a contagious disease it was necessary to restrict the funeral and only adult relatives attended. The Merna school was closed Friday as a precautionary measure. He was 14 years old.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Schneringer and Johnson funeral home. Burial was in the broken Bow cemetery.
His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fritz of Anselmo but he had been making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Saylor in Merna. He is survived by seven sisters and three brothers.
The Merna school was re-opened Monday although it was reported some parents opposed this.
