JAMES BUCK
---James Buck was born in the city of Bath, Steuben county, New York, June 20th, 1812, and moved to Athens county, Ohio, with his parents, in 1818. He was married to Catharine H. Parsons in 1835. He was converted and joined the church of United Brethren in 1852. He moved to Missouri in 1868, and died August 15, 1887, aged 75 years 1 month and 27 days. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his loss, two having preceded him to the better world. On Tuesday, August 16, his mortal remains were deposited in the La Plata cemetery to rest until the resurrection. The funeral discourse was preached immediately afterward at the C. P. Church, by Rev. J. S. Rooker of the M. E. Church, South. He was sick three weeks before his death, and suffered much, but suffered as a christian, and died a christian. But he wanted to get well all the time, and when he knew that he could not, he called his wife to his bedside and said: "We have lived together a long time, and I suppose we will have to separate, but we will meet again." The last words he said to her were: "We will lie down and go to sleep, won't we?" May God sustain the dear wife and children, and may they be prepared to greet him in heaven.
