Catherine Elizabeth Poole was born 1861 in St. Mary's (Auburn), Wake County, NC, the youngest of 5 known surviving children born to farmers, Calvin Pool/Poole and his (2nd) wife, Cathrine Green.

She was the paternal grandchild of William Pool/Poole and Alcey/Alsey Powell of Wake County.

Katie's father had first married Sally Mariah Smith in 1846, by whom a son was born in 1847, Pashal Pool/Poole (CSA). He then married Katie's mother, Cathrine Green, by whom 5 children were born. Cathrine Green Pool died in 1861 just about a month after Katie's birth; and Calvin Pool married (3rd) Elizabeth "Betty" Margaret Jones, who became Katie's stepmother and by whom 6 more children were born.

Katie was 23 years old on on December 26, 1884 when she married the almost 28-year old Baptist Minister, Nicholas P. Stallings of Wake County.

The couple would become parents of 5 known surviving children: Isaac Clyde (1887-1946), Exum C. (1889-1962), John Lee (1891-1961), Essie Gertrude (1894-1988), and Kate (1896-1972).

Nicholas was a circuit preacher and known to have lived in Parkville, Perquimans County (c. 1900) and ministered at Old Shady Grove Baptist Church (no longer in existence) a few miles south of Myock, NC.

Katie died young in August 1900. She was only 38 years old.

About 3 years later, Nicholas married (2nd) Nina Riddick (Reddick), and this marriage resulted in one known child being born: Walton Dees Stallings (c. 1912).
