Nicholas became a Baptist Minister, and on December 26, 1884 the almost 28-year old preacher married 23-year old Catherine "Katie" Poole, daughter of Calvin Pool/Poole and his (2nd) wife Cathrine Green, farmers in St. Mary's (Auburn), Wake Co, NC.
The couple would become parents of 6 known surviving children: Paul L. (1885-1894), Isaac Clyde (1887-1946), Exum C. (1889-1962), John Lee (1891-1961), Estelle "Essie" Gertrude (1894-1988), and Kate (1896-1972).
Nicholas was a circuit preacher and known to have lived in Parkville, Perquimans County (c. 1900) and ministered at Old Shady Grove Baptist Church (no longer in existence) a few miles south of Moyock, NC.
Nicholas was widowed in 1900, when his bride of 15+ years passed at the young age of 38. About 3 years later, Nicholas married (2nd) Nina R. (surname unknown). He was about age 47 at the nuptials, and she only about age 26. The family moved to Bayboro in Pamlico County around 1910, where he preached and Nina was a public school teacher. The marriage resulted in 2 known child being born: Nicholas P. Stallings Jr. (1903-1904), and Walton Dees Stallings (c. 1912).
Rev. Stallings died in Moyock, Currituck County, on August 7, 1917. He was 60 years old. His second wife survived him.
