He was the paternal grandson of William B. Pool & Alcey "Allie" Powell of Wake County; and the maternal grandson of Green Jones & Laney Tull of Lenoir County.
He was 26 when he married 27-year old Edie Jones on February 12, 1890, daughter of Gaston Jones & Samantha Johnson/Johnston of St. Mary's.
The couple farmed in the Auburn area of St. Mary's, Wake County, and would be parents to 4 known children: Dr. Frank Kenneth Poole (1890), Veola Gray Pool (1892), Robert Gaston Poole (1897-1967), and Calvin Parker Poole (1900).
Joseph was widowed in 1934 when his wife of 44 years died at age 70. He passed 9 years later in 1943 at age 79.
