Calvin Pool was born 1822 in Wake County, NC, the youngest of at least 9 known surviving children (8 boys/1 girl) born to William B. Pool and his wife, Alcey "Allie" Powell. His name has been found in public records as POOL and POOLE. One of his brothers, Albert Jackson Pool is also buried here.

He was the paternal grandson of Hardy Poole/Pool (c. 1758-1813) Edith Poole/Pool of Virginia who removed to Wake Co, NC with his parents, George Poole III (c. 1717-1773) and wife Mary. He was a direct descendant of this family's patriarch, Richard Poole/Pool (ca. 1610-1674) who removed from England and settled in Norfolk County, VA, marrying Mary Ward. On his mother's side, he was the maternal grandchild of Moses Powell (c. 1730-1799) of Isle of Wight, VA who with his wife, Prudence Garner, removed to Wake Co, around 1765.

Calvin married (1st) in about 1846 to Sally Mariah Smith, daughter of Samuel A. Smith & Sarah "Sally" Baucom of Wake County. The marriage resulted in the birth of one known child:

* Paschal Pool (1847-1929)

Sally Smith Pool died in 1851, and Calvin married (2nd) to Cathrine Green around 1851-1853, daughter of Jesse Green & Clara Bagwell of Wake. He was about 29-31, while she was about 21-23 years old. This marriage produced 5 known children:

* Sion Pool (1854-1912)
* Hezekial/Hezekiah Pool (1855-1932)
* Christianna Pool BOONE (1857-1875)
* Rosannah "Rosa" Pool KELLY (1859-1920)
* Catherine Elizabeth "Katie" Pool STALLINGS (1861-1900).

Calvin was widowed again 1861 when Catherine died a little over a month after giving birth to their 5th child. He was 41 years old when he married for the (3rd) time to Elizabeth Margaret "Betty" Jones of Lenoir County, NC, the 32-year old daughter of Green Jones (dec'd) and his wife, Laney Tull. This marriage resulted in 6 more children being born:

* Areanan (c. 1865)
* Icana C. (1866-1919)
* Alley Alien "Allie" (1868-1956)
* Adeline Elanor "Addie" (1870-1942)
* Emma Gertrude (1874-1972)

Calvin, all 3 of his wives, and his 12 children farmed in the St. Mary's (Auburn) area of Wake County.

Calvin died in 1908 at age 86. His third wife of 45 years survived him by 4 years, passing in 1912 at age 81.
