Retta Ivey Hamic was born the daughter of Tina "Tinnie" Scott. Retta took the name Ivey upon the marriage of her mother to John Franklin Ivey.

Hamic-Mrs. Retta, 57, died Friday afternoon at the residence, 4115 Clio Ave. She is survived by her husband J.M. Hamic; two daughters Mrs. R.O.Cemer and Mrs. Minnie Golden of Chattanooga; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Freshour, Hixon, TN;Mrs. Cora White; three brothers, Ben Ivey, Chattanooga; Roy Ivey, Lupton City, TN; and Joe Ivey, Daisy, Tenn, two granddaughters, Dorothy Dean and Juanita Golden; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon from the Clifton Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Spurling and A.M. Stansel conducting. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. Arrangements are by the National Funeral Home.

John Franklin Ivey was married before marrying the mother of Retta Ivey Hamic. None of these ten children are mentioned on the obituary. It has also come to light that J.M. Hamic, James Miller Hamic, spouse of Retta, was also the son of the third husband of Tinnie Scott Ivey Hamic, Retta's mother.
