Bertha Ellen Ivey was born the daughter of John Franklin Ivey and Malinda Caroline Ivie Ivey. Bertha was one of seven children born to this couple: Audley, Mary, Gertrude, James, Elijah, Lillian, and Bertha. She had a half-brother by the name William W. Snyder.

On August 23, 1913 in Walker Co., Georgia Bertha married Carl Gilreath having six children. After his death in 1931, Bertha married Olen Lee Gilreath having one child, Delorese Irene Gilreath Jones.

Bertha was an employee of Peerless Woolen Mills and lived for the betterment of her children. In 1943 she was hit by a car, causing her death.

I am forever indepted to Bertha's sister, Gertrude Ivey, for the love and care she showed my mother, after the loss of her mother.

Mother In Heaven

Mother lay down to sleep, as
The Angels called her away;
To go to a Heavenly Home
Where we shall meet her someday.
God, who watches over us
Saw that her life was complete;
And took her home with Him
To rest in a Golden Seat.
There she shall know no sorrow
Or worry, only happiness;
No more hardship or pain, for
There is only tenderness.
While she's sitting on her throne
Always watching over us;
She shall guide us in our thoughts
To what's right and to trust,
In God our Heavenly Father
Who is waiting patiently;
To take us home with Him, so
He can watch us lovingly.
