She was the paternal grandchild of Philip & Sarah Jones of Lenoir County, and the maternal grandchild of Charles Tull of Baltimore, MD who came to Lenoir County ca. 1754 and later married Sarah "Sally" Hardy, daughter of Lemuel "Lamb" Hardy II and Mary Sutton of Lenoir.
Bettie's parents moved to South Carolina for a time, where Bettie was born, then later to Georgia; but eventually returned home to Lenoir County to farm.
She was 32 years old when she became the 3rd wife of Calvin Pool of St. Mary's, Wake County, becoming stepmother to his 6 children by two previous wives.
The couple would farm in the St. Mary's (Auburn) area of Wake County and later her widowed mother would move in with them. Younger brother, George Washington Jones, would also move to Wake.
The couple were parents to 6 known children: Joseph Franklin (1864-1943), Areanan (c. 1865), Icana C. (1866-1919), Alley Alien "Allie" (1868-1956), Adeline Elanor "Addie" (1870-1942), and Emma Gertrude (1874-1972).
Bettie was widowed in 1908 when her husband of 45 years passed at age 86. She survived him by 4 years, passing in 1912 at age 81.
