GENEVA CATHERINE HAHNFELD of Independence, Missouri, went home to her Savior on December 5, 2010. She was born in Curryville, Missouri, on June 18, 1926. She was a model for Ely & Walker in the 1940s. She worked at the Canteen Restaurant in Kansas City during the 1950s & 1960s where she met her husband. After marriage, she devoted herself to being a homemaker. She loved to cook and collect recipes. She enjoyed working in her yard & gardening. Her grandchildren were the greatest joy in life. She was preceded in death by husband Ernst Hahnfeld; parents Robert & Myrtle Brown; brothers Forrest, W.R., Dalton, Eugene, Lawson, Lawrence, Marion, Edgar, & Marvin; sisters Belva, Bessie, Maude, Lucille, Irene, & an infant girl. She is survived by her son C. John Smith, Jr. of Kansas City; daughter & son-in-law Marcia & William Deitrick of Independence; grandchildren Jacob Deitrick, Noah Deitrick, and Jack Wetzel; sister Gloria Kirk of Mexico, Missouri, sisters-in-law Marlene Lewis & Joan Kalafatich of St. Louis, MO, and many nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 12, 4-6 p.m. Interment at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens will be private.
