Sarah was born the daughter of Zachariah Warren [1762] and Agnes White [1765] in Franklin County Virginia. She married Edmund Hendley Richards Sr. March 22 1802 in Franklin Co VA. The Richards and Warren families were neighbors and friends living ca6.5 miles south east of Rocky Mount [between Sydnorsville and Sontag].
EXODUS TO TENNESSEE
They later migrated with several families [Stewart, Warren, Jones, England, Hodges, etc] to Robertson Co TN in 1814. They were landowners/farmers there.
TO ILLINOIS
Then in 1830, Edmund & Sarah again transplanted with most of the same families north to Macoupin County IL, settling along the border of North Otter and North Palmyra townships. They purchased land and engaged in farming. Edmund & Sarah raised eleven children.

After husband Edmund's death in 1840, Sarah moved with sons Zachariah & Caleb, and the Henry Carter family to north west Missouri in Andrew Co. There they settled on land acquired by the U.S. Government from the Indians by the Platte Purchase in 1841. In perspective of how "on the edge of civilization" they were, the western migration using the "Oregon Trail" began a few years AFTER they homesteaded [in the 1845-1848 period].

She lived out her years being cared for on the family farm of Zachariah W. Richards, and near other son Caleb. She was the one pioneer of the Virginia Richards clan who traveled furthest in their lifetime.

First I direct that my body be directly interred and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my situation in life; and as to the property or effects I may be in possession of, or have a right to the possession of at the time of my death I direct to be disposed of in the following manner viz. All the property or effects of mine that may be in the care of my beloved son, Zechariah W. Richards, at the time of my death I give to him. And I also give unto my beloved son, Caleb D. Richards, all the property or effects of mine that may be in his possession at the time of my death.
