Mary was the last of 11 children, and the 5th daughter born to Edmund Hendley Richards Sr. and Sarah Ann Warren in Macoupin County Illinois. Her father owned land and farmed east of Modesto and near Stirrup Grove/Chapman Point. She had siblings and aunts and uncles in the same area, as her father settled land there in 1830 in a large multi-family migration from Tennessee.

Mary married Thomas M. Park September 17 1846 in Macoupin County IL.
