The following is a letter written by Anna Anderson to her mother-in-law, Ingeborg Anderson. It was written in Norwegian and the envelope is postmarked Tuttle, ND Dec 14, 1919
Tuttle, N Dak Jan 6,1919
Dear Mother in Law
I will now try to write a few words to you and answer your very welcome letter I received a few days ago. And want to say many thanks. We are all well again now. And I hope you are all feeling well also. When I came home I found our home in a sad and depressing situation, Andrew and three of the children were very ill. Gilbert, Jennie and Pete came through it and are feeling well again now. But Andrew did not make it as he contacted pneumonia and was sick only six days and as soon as he passed away I was taken sick and I could not to along to the funeral. It was some very trying days for us. At the time Andrew became sick he had started to do some remodeling and hoped to have it all nicely done when I came home, but he was only half through when he was taken ill. Our Pastor Jacobs and some of our other neighbors decided it would be best for us to get a house in Tuttle until I became well again. They also found a lady to take over and help us through, she was a very good and helpful person. I think we will be staying here in Tuttle until we go back to South Dakota again. I know its going to be very lonely and hard to manage alone now that Andrew is gone. We will sell everything but not the land for now. I am so happy to have brother John here to help me. There is so much that has to be done. We are having some real nice weather now. John and Mary went out to the farm today, and will come back tomorrow. We had a very quite and lonely Christmas this year. Pastor Jacobs did not have any meetings in Tuttle because of the sickness around. There has been two deaths since I have come home, here in Tuttle. I got a card from Leander, he had sent it to Andrew. I must now close my letter for now, as I don't have much news to tell. We will soon see you all again from your daughter-in-law,
