Velma Loney, 87, of State Center, died Thursday October 14 at the State Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center under the care of her family and Iowa River Hospice.

Services were held Monday, October 18 at the St Paul Lutheran church with Pastor Gary McManus officiating. Interment was in Hillside cemetery.

She was born on June 26, 1917 in Marshall county, Iowa the daughter of William Henry and Carolyn Richerodt Schuler. She was raised and educated in State Center, graduating from high school in 1935. On March 18, 1937 at Dixon, Illinois she was united in marriage to Kenneth Delos Loney and they resided in State Center.

Velma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St Paul Lutheran church in State Center.

Surviving is a daughter, Sandra (Henry) Hartwig of State Center, a daughter in law Donna Loney of Marshalltown, five grandchildren, David Loney, Patrick Loney, Angela (Dan) Hunt, Chris (Don) Davis and Lisa (Brett) Nichols. Also surviving are eleven great grandchildren, Nathan and Megan Davis, Austin and Kaitlyn Nichols, Emma and Ethan Loney, Natalie and Nathaniel Hunt, Shannon, Kevin and Robin Loney, six step-great grandchildren and a sister in law, Evelyn Schuler of State Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in 1989, a son Veldon in 1991, four brothers, Wilbert, Arnold, Clarence and Bill; and three sisters, Hazel Greiner, Margaret Buck and Mildred Schuler.
