OBITUARY

Funeral services for Mrs. Elva Hamlin were held at the Exira Christian church at 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon with the Rev. A. G. Whittier pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in the Exira cemetery.

Mrs. Hamlin, daughter of Amos Crane and Elizabeth (Hawk) Crane, was born at Clyde, Ohio, on Oct. 17, 1862, and died at her home in Exira on Wednesday, April 19, aged 70 years, six months, and two days.
For the past several years her health had not been good, though she was able to be up and around. Since last August, she had been forced to remain at home and had been bedfast since early in March of this year with breast cancer.

At the age of nine years, together with her mother and step father, the deceased moved to Iowa where she grew to womanhood. On Nov. 8, 1881, she was united in marriage to Nathaniel Douglas Hamlin at Audubon.
Eleven children were born to them, one dying in infancy. The husband preceded her in death in 1915.
In 1886 Mr. and Mrs. Hamlin went to Nebraska, where they were among the early settlers of that state. They returned to Exira in 1897.

Mrs. Hamlin gave herself to Christ on Easter Sunday, 1915, and became affiliated with the Congregational church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star lodge.
