Cecil Lee Hamlin, 81, Mendon, Missouri, died Feb. 19, 1987 at the Pershing hospital in Brookfield, Missouri. He was born April 10, 1905 in Exira, Audubon Co., Iowa, the youngest of 11 children born to Nathaniel Douglas and Elva Crane Hamlin, including a sibling who died in infancy. Cecil's grandfather, Nathaniel Hamlin, was the first settler of Audubon Co., Iowa in 1851.

He graduated from the Exira High School in 1923, and worked at various jobs while growing up, including helping his brothers at the Hamlin Brothers Coal Co., near Bonaparte, Iowa, and the dredging of rivers. He came to Missouri to help dredge the Grand River with his brother Douglas and they both met their future wives in Lock Srpings.
He was united in marriage 24 July, 1929 in South Bend, Indiana to Gladys Rae Stokesberry of Lock Springs, Missouri.

After their marriage, they moved several times in Illinois where he operated a dragline for the Seminole Coal Mining Company. While visiting with family in Missouri, he saw an opportunity to retire from the mines and moved to Chillicothe where he became the owner of the Hamlin Service Station on South Washington St. He retired again and had many good years to travel to Iowa and visit with family and enjoy the 4th of July celebrations.
His hobbies were wood crafting, making slingshots (these kept the cats and squirrels out of the yard) making jewelry and tables out of the many stones and gems he collected over the years, fishing with a bow and arrow, and riding his motorcycle with Pappy Barnes.
His siblings gave him the nickname of "Trix".

His first wife Gladys passed away 10 Dec., 1974. She, his parents, and four brothers preceded him in death.
..............

He married Kathryn Elizabeth Larson Bittiker 14 Dec., 1975 in Livingston Co., Missouri. They sold his home in Chillicothe and moved to her home in Mendon, Mo.

Kathryn was born 16 May, 1913 in Chula, Mo., and died 10 May 2002 at the Pershing Hospital, Brookfield, Mo. She was the daughter of A. Lee Larson and Ethel Waits.
Her first husband was Floyd C. Bittiker, b. 03 Dec 1907
and died 12 Mar 1965.
She is buried in the Mendon Cemetery in Chariton Co., Missouri with her first husband, Floyd.

"YOUR MOM AND ME"

Generations are gone with the passing of time
For each has held memories, and Cecil is mine
What a scamp his folks must have thought they had
But dear little "Trix" was still my dad
He must have grown tired of being told to "be good!"
I'm sure he was doing the best that he could
He'd tell you a story and bring joy to your heart
Oh, how I wish we were no longer apart
Through the years he was always my friend
And once in a while I hear his sweet voice in the wind
Saying.."Please don't cry, Nance, it's not so bad you see
For you know we're together..your Mom and Me
We went through the hard times, the good and the bad
But we left you with memories, so please don't be sad
Just remember we love you, and go on with your life
We're sick no longer and in all of that strife
We were so proud of our two little girls
One with a bow, and the other with curls
Our family was the best that could be
So smile honey, and remember.. "Your Mom and Me"
