OBITUARY: Claire McAninch

Claire McAninch, the daughter of Nathaniel and Elva Crane Hamlin, died at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 100 years, 11 months, and 22 days.

On October 31, 1910, she was united in marriage to Charles Lee (Leander) McAninch at the Episcopal Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They spent their married life in Exira. Charles Lee, an insurance and real estate salesman, died in September of 1935. She then worked at the Bredahl Drug Store at Exira for 20 years. Claire was a granddaughter of Nathaniel Hamlin, one of the founders of Audubon County. She was a 50 year member of the Exodus Chapter No. 313, Order of the Eastern Star in Exira, a member of the Thursday Club and the Audubon Historical Society.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband was her daughter, Florence Evelyn Wasser on August 10, 1978 and her son, Dr. James D. McAninch, D.D.S. on May 10, 1981; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include her 5 grandchildren: Sandra McAninch of West Covina, CA; Steve McAninch of Camarillo, California; Rachel Wasser of Palo Alto, California; John Wasser of Saratoga Springs, N. Y.; and Eric Wasser of Lake Worth, FL.; 2 great grandchildren of Lake Worth, FL.; her sister, Evelyn Hensley of Exira; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Kessler's Exira Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Jensen, Pastor.
Burial in the Exira Cemetery, Exira, Iowa.
