Morris was the eldest of five boys in the industrious Quaker farming family of Benjamin Hampton III and Hannah Morris Hampton.

The dates used above are from the Gregorian calendar. Quaker religious records from the period -- which retained the Julian calendar and began the year in March -- recorded Morris' birth on the 22nd day of the 12th month, 1816 and his death on the 7th day of the 8th month, 1903.

He moved from Wrightstown to Quakertown (Franklin Twp.), Hunterdon Co. around 1840, when he joined the Kingwood Monthly Meeting in Quakertown.

Like his father, Morris became a farmer. He lived in the Cherryville section of Franklin Twp. for the rest of his life.

He married Amy Hampton Cliffton in Quakertown in 1842. They had three children: Rebecca Cliffton in 1844, William Cliffton in 1845, and Sarah Elizabeth in 1847. Rebecca died as a teenager and William passed away at 30 years of age.

Morris had 5 grandchildren and 23 additional known descendants as of early 2008.
