The dates used above are from the Gregorian calendar. Quaker religious records from the period -- which retained the Julian calendar and began the year in March -- recorded Amy's birth on the 29th day of the 6th month, 1813 and her death on the 27th day of the 7th month, 1885.
She moved from Wrightstown to Quakertown (Franklin Twp.), Hunterdon Co. around 1840, when she joined the Kingwood Monthly Meeting in Quakertown.
She lived in the Cherryville section of Franklin Twp. for the rest of her life.
She married Morris Hampton in Quakertown in 1842. They had three children: Rebecca Cliffton in 1844, William Cliffton in 1845, and Sarah Elizabeth in 1847. Rebecca died as a teenager and William passed away at 30 years of age.
Amy had 5 grandchildren and 23 additional known descendants as of early 2008.
Thank you so much to Angela Brown, who so kindly found, photographed and uploaded the gravestone to this memorial. She said, "On Amy Hampton's, we can read 'wife of Morris Hampton' and kind of make out 'Amy' on top of that."
I would be more than happy to transfer this memorial to a closer family member. Please click on my name, below, to email me.
