Benjamin was the second of nine children of Benjamin Hampton (Jr.), a Quaker farmer, and his wife, Margaret Pownall Hampton.

He married Hannah Morris on the 10th day of the 5th month, 1815 at Monthly Meeting in Wrightstown. They had five sons: Morris in 1816, James in 1819, John T. in 1823, William Wharton in 1826, and Joseph in 1829.

Benjamin moved from Wrightstown to Quakertown, Hunterdon Co. in 1840, when he joined the Kingwood Monthly Meeting in Quakertown. He remained a pious 'Friend' all of his life.

From "Honor Joseph Hampton, Whose Descendants Settled in Hunterdon," newspaper article published in or after 1935, Hampton Family Notebook (vertical file), compiled by Hiram E. Deats, Hunt Co Hist Soc, Flemington, New Jersey:
"[After 1804], Benjamin the third, another son of Benjamin, Jr., also moved into Hunterdon County with his wife, Hannah Morris, daughter of Issacher Morris, of the Philadelphia Morrises. Accompanied by their children, they became leaders in the Kingwood Friends Meeting at Quakertown, N. J."

Benjamin was a farmer and a carpenter.

Some sources say that he died in Quakertown, which is a small village in Franklin Twp.
