Born on September 18, 1920, in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Norman C. Garlitz and Rhoda Viola (Robinson) Garlitz. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his wife, Betty T. (Turner) Garlitz, on Feb. 16, 2011; three sisters, Pansy Wilson, Evelyn Winebrenner and Mildred Baker, and six brothers, Elmer Garlitz, Clarence Garlitz, Gilbert Garlitz, Esco Garlitz, Vernard Garlitz and Raymond Garlitz.
Mr. Garlitz was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Phillipines and a member of Farrady Post 24 American Legion. He was a retired kiln fireman from Kaiser Refactory.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda A. Garlitz, of Frostburg; one son, Gerald L. Garlitz, of Boston; one brother, William Garlitz, of Hagerstown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside interment was held at Mount Zion Cemetery.
