FROSTBURG — Raymond F. Garlitz, 77, of Frostburg Road, Frostburg, died Tuesday at his residence.

He was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Frostburg, to Rhonda (Robison) and Norman Garlitz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Nicholas and Todd Garlitz; three sisters, Pansy Wilson, Evelyn Winebrenner and Mildred Baker; five brothers, Clarence, Elmer, Esco, Vernard and Gilbert Garlitz.

Raymond was a retired mail truck driver, a Methodist by faith and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Mt. Lodge 99 A.F. & A.M., Farrady Post 24 American Legion, Salisbury V.F.W. Post 8826 and Frostburg Elks Lodge 470.

Mr. Garlitz is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Poland; five sons, Jimmy Garlitz, Bowie, Bernie Garlitz and wife Kelly, Frostburg, Gary Garlitz and wife Sue, Frostburg, Kenny Garlitz, Midland, and Kevin Garlitz and wife Alexa, Frostburg; one daughter, Karen Wright and husband Randy, Frostburg; eight grandchildren, Kristina Good-rich, Amanda Miller, Richard Garlitz, James M. Garlitz, Meghan Avella, Briana Garlitz, Cory Wright and Ryan Garlitz; 10 great-grandchildren, Jericho and Jonah Goodrich, Jannae and Jayden Miller, Brayden Clevenger, Machaylee and James Mich-ael Maxwell Garlitz, and James, Ashton, Kalli Avella; two brothers, Arvil Garlitz, Frostburg, and William Garlitz, Hagerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday, March 17, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be at Blocher Cemetery. His sons and son-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be presented by Frostburg Farrady Post 24 American Legion.

The family asks that memorials be directed to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
