Girard- Myrtle D. Burns,101, of
Girard, died at 1:28 a.m. Wednesday,
Aug. 1, 2001, at the Heritage Nursing
Center in Girard, where she had been
a resident for four years.
She was born April 6, 1900, in Monmouth
to John M. and Cynthia A. (Green) Burris.
She was an area resident all of her life.
She married John C. Burns in Oct. 1916
in Girard. He preceded her in death on
Sept. 27, 1949.
She was a member of the Beulah
Community Church in Beulah, where she
taught Sunday school and Bible school
for 35 years. She was a volunteer for
Headstart for 15 years and a member of
the Goldstar Mothers. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by three daughters, June
Jones of Beulah, Alice Cherry of Parsons,
and Normas Washington of Beulah; four
sons, Harold Burns, Roy Burns, and Joe
Burns all of Cherokee, and Willard Burns
of Mindenmines, Mo.; 49 grandchildren,
115 great-grandchildren, and 35 great-
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sons,
Melvin, Marshall, Millard and Donald; and
by a daughter Anna Sterling.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday
at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in
Pittsburg with the Rev. David Sutton
officiating. Burial will be in McCune
cemetery. Family will recieve friends
from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral
home where friends may call after 2
p.m. Friday.

Cancer Society may be sent to the
