Ernest Astle Shot
Ernest Astle of Grover, was shot accidentally last Sunday by a companion while out gathering Huckleberries the bullet struck about two inches to the right of the navel, and went straight in, and has not been located. the boy died Monday afternoon about four o'clock.
The deceased, with two companions, Earl Jensen and Carl Peterson, went into the hills to gather Huckleberries, last Sunday afternoon and took a Twenty Two Rifle with them. While on Big Mountain they reloaded the gun and put in twelve bullets, and one of them suggested that they put in a thirteenth, "For Bad Luck'. The Astle boy left the other two and was about two rods away, when hearing them scuffling with the gun he turned around and told them to point the gun the other way. At that instant the gun went off with the result as told above. One of the boys went down the hill into the valley for help, and Fred Hale and Ed Sandberg returned with him in a buggy. The hill was too steep for the buggy to go all the way, and they were compelled to carry the boy down the steep hillside in a Quilt.
When they reached the valley Dr. West hove in sight having been sent for, and he was unable to locate the bullet, and the boy suffered and lingered until the following afternoon when his spirit fled.
The funeral was held at Grover Wednesday afternoon, and a large crowd attended the services, the speakers were E.M.Thurman,
