Edna Maria (Schmidt) Kopf, 86, of the Buffalo community, died Sunday, October, 29, 2006, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington, Nebraska.


Edna Maria Schmidt was born on June 15, 1920, at Buffalo, Nebraska, to Johann Adolph and Louise (Lange) Schmidt. She was the sixth born of seven siblings; Elizabeth (Zea), Eleonore (Ella), Wilhelm (Bill), Louis (Louie), Esther, Edna, and Alice.


Edna Maria Schmidt was baptized on July 18, 1920 and confirmed on April 22, 1934 at the First Lutheran Church, Buffalo, Nebraska. She attended school near Buffalo and upon completion of her education was a live-in housekeeper for the Bill and Doris Jeffrey family of Lexington.


Edna Maria Schmidt was united in marriage to Alfred Bernhardt Kopf on February, 15, 1942 at the First Lutheran Church, Buffalo, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born, Dennis Rex (died at birth), Rodney Lee, and Larry Gene Kopf. She lived on the farm near Buffalo for many years. Alfred died from leukemia on November 13, 1973, and Edna continued to live on the farm until entering Plum Cree Care Center a few month before her death.


Edna was a life-long member of the First Lutheran Church. She was active in the Ladies Aide Society at church.


Edna's immediate family are her parents, Johann Adolph and Louise (Lange) Schmidt, Buffalo; her husband Alfred Bernhardt Kopf, Buffalo; her three sons, Dennis Rex Kopf (died at birth), Rodney Lee (Janet Kay Vollmer) Kopf, Buffalo, and Larry Gene Kopf, Beatrice, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Stephanie Ann (James Alan) Landauer, Lexington and Steven Duane (Elizabeth Ann Nelson) Kopf, Buffalo; four great-grandchildren, Amber Arlene and Allison Landauer, Riley Jay and Levi Garrett Kopf; brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.


Services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Buffalo, north of Lexington with Deacon Victor Rasmussen Officiating. Burial was at Buffalo First Lutheran Cemetery, Buffalo, Nebraska.
