FUNERAL SERVICE FOR ESTHER DOROTHY GORDON

Esther Schmidt Gordon was born on March 8, 1917 to Louise (Lange) and John Adolph Schmidt in Buffalo, Nebraska with seven siblings, Zea, Ella, Bill, Louie, (Esther), Edna and Alice. She was baptized and confirmed at Buffalo Lutheran Church in Buffalo, Nebraska. Following her schooling in a rural one room school and later in a Lutheran parochial school at Buffalo, which included two years of high school, she moved to Denver in 1940 beginning work with Fitzsimons Military Hospital.

While employed at Fitzsimons, Esther met Zane Gordon who was in the military (Army) at the time. They were married on January 8, 1944 in Denver, Colorado.

Soon after their marriage they moved to the outskirts of Denver at 55 S. Colorado Boulevard. Here they were blessed with five children, Dean, Bruce, twins Jean and Joan, and Zane Arthur. In 1952 the family moved to 446 S. Windermere (now 6050 S. Windermere), Littleton, Colorado. Along with Zane's full time job at Gates Rubber Company, they raised a yearly crop of 3000 chickens.

Esther and Zane sold the farm in November 1964 and moved to 3103 E. Weaver Pl., Littleton (now Centennial), Colorado. Esther resided their until her death, September 9, 1996.

The Gordons were charter members of Ascension Lutheran Church which began in 1955. Esther was active in the Ladies Guild for many years. When interviewed for Lifelines, Ascension Lutheran Church's newsletter, Esther stated that she had had a wonderful life enjoying gardening which included lots of home canning of fruits and vegetables. She was also an expert needlepoint and had made many beautiful quilts.

Although a shut-in for many years because of asthma, Esther continued to be faithful supporter of her church. She will always be remembered for her cheerfulness and warmth in welcoming people to her home, and her sense of humor which she maintained throughout her life.

Esther is survived by her children, Dean (Judy) Gordon of Aurora, Colorado, Bruce Gordon of Denver, Colorado, Jean Thompson of Winterset, Iowa, Joan (Paul) Welch of Winterset, Iowa, and Zane Arthur Gordon of Centennial, Colorado.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1976. She will be laid to rest next to him in Buffalo First Lutheran Cemetery, Buffalo, Nebraska.
