Pallbearers for George Eakins, 81, of New London, N.C., former resident of the Peninsula, will be Marty Havens, Thomas Havens, Robert Harber, Stephen Dabb, Louis Lynn and John Reisbeck.
Grave side services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Alan Grant, assistant pastor of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, officiating.
Mr. Eakins, well-known local painter and nephew of famous American artist Thomas Eakins, died Thursday night in Albemarle, N.C. He was the son of Acting Master Samuel Eakins of the "Alligator," the only Union submarine of the Civil War.
Mr. Eakins was a charter member of Council 511, Knights of Columbus, and of its 4th degree since 1912. A Rosary service will be held by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Peninsula Funeral Home.
