May Theresa Tamarato (nee Eakins), 99, of West Orange passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018.

Visiting will be held on Friday January 4, 2019 at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St. in West Orange from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday January 5, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave., West Orange at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, donations in May’s name to; Cedar Grove First Aid Squad, PO Box 81, Cedar Grove NJ 07009.

May was born and raised in Maplewood moving to West Orange in 1948. She worked as a School Aide at Redwood School in West Orange for 15 years, prior to that she worked at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark. May was a member of the St. Joseph’s Church of Maplewood Catholic Daughters, the Theatre Group – Placidiam Players in Maplewood, and the West Orange Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Civil Defense Watch. May was the granddaughter of Samuel Eakins, the first commander of the US Navy’s first Submarine whose name was Alligator.

May was the beloved wife of the late William Tamarato. Devoted mother of Marsha Malone and her husband Edward, Barbara Larson and her husband Scott, Nancy Mason, and William J. Tamarato Jr. and his wife Rose Marie. Loving sister of Josephine Harbers and the late Mildred Havens. Cherished grandmother of 10 and great grandmother of 7, she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
